It was a heartbreaking experience leaving her at her daughter’s house, knowing that she would likely go back to this abusive man—knowing that she would continue to be lost without Christ. I wish I had the opportunity to share to gospel with her, to bring her true hope. My only consolation is that she was for a brief period of time treated with love and respect and could see what people who care for each are supposed to do—protect each other.
The way this man treated her is never ok. Men are called to love like Christ who gave us life and is our shelter in times of trouble. Any, man who is not protecting his wife is not living according to God’s word and deserves punishment for his wrongdoing. The complementarian view does not teach that men should or can beat their loved ones, nor can someone use it as support for treating women unjustly.
As a complementarian I am for men leading their wives and families. I am for men protecting them. I am for men providing for them. However, as a complementarian, I am NOT for men raping women. I am NOT for men abusing women. I am NOT for mistreatment of women of any kind by men. On these issues I stand with all those egalitarians who are fighting against this kind of injustice towards women and it is in this strict sense that I can support #YesAllWomen.
